Beste Lacnetters

I've been asked by a mother whether beginning progesteron (sorry, she didn't
stipulate which type, ie. pils or implants) early postpartum to prevent ppd.
She is aware of possible effects on milk production if begun too soon (i.e.
within 3 days pp) but her question was whether there was a risk to brain
development of her newborn? From Lawrence, I gather that it is a theoretical
risk of steroid hormones intefereing with receptors in the immaute neonate
brain. But is there any concrete evidence for this?

From what I understand the natural progesterones are the safest because of
poor oral availability.

I've also found some evidence, including a Cochrane publication where doubt
is cast on the effectiveness of using progesterone for preventing ppd - but
that's another story!

thanks

ps I have also told her that there are other safe alternatives available.
