Linda Madsen's post on "yanking licenses/involvement with corporate
entities" was so well put. I came to lactation consultation in much the
same way. It was only when I began reading and studying in earnest to sit
the exam that I realized how little I really knew about breastfeeding! I
had 2 years of postpartum and 10 years of NICU experience when I sat the
exam. And ever since my postpartum nurse days I had always felt that I was
pretty good at "getting a baby on the breast". Now I realize I was pretty
much just lucky.

Every time I think about how much I have learned by being a part of this
forum, it reminds me to be open minded and patient with others I encounter
who may not have come to the place that I am in my lactation beliefs or
whose focus on moms, babies and feeding are different from mine.

My conclusions 10 years ago would have been very different than they would
be now. Maybe 10 years from now someone else's conclusions about lactation
will be different because of something they heard me say today.
