(Permission to post) I have a client who has 20 month old twins whom she has been breastfeeding. Due to complications during their delivery, she had a hysterectomy. I received the following question in an e-mail from her mother and asked if I could repost to the lactnet community.

"Also, if there is a third baby it will be adopted or surrogate. Can she keep pumping indefinitely to maintain a milk supply? If so, how many times a day or how much milk would she need to produce daily to maintain it?"

My first reaction was that she induce lactation for the next baby, but has anyone ever had a similar situation?
