My son was a VERY frequent nurser. My daughter (now 5 months old) is a very infrequent nurser. Sometimes I think she doesn't nurse at all. Her weight gain is excellent. She is very advanced physically. Also she stopped having frequent bowel movements at two weeks of age. I try to nurse her as often as possible, but she is not a frequent nurser. Period. Won't nurse to fall asleep or for comfort. There is nothing I can do if she isn't interested in nursing. For the record, I am still nursing my 4-year-old. I am a LLL leader. For the first few months I was very puzzled by the lack of prescribed 8-12 nursings a day. Now I know my daughter is just different. I actually wonder if she will eventually wean early and am a little bit upset about it.
