Here is a situation that needs resolution: Help will be appreciated....

Woman is pregnant with her 2nd child. Nursing first one for 4 years. He
weaned 4 mo ago. Two days ago, she realized that her nipple hurt. This am
she woke up with a one inch lump in her breast, on aureola. Gone into her
health care professional, who put her on Keflex, and told her that it was a
breast infection. If it isn't gone in 2 days, he is going to drain it as a
breast abscess. Woman has no signs of fever, no chills, no red streaks. It
is a lump, not a red hot spot. Woman feels like she already has colostrum.
She wakes up with her clothing stuck to her breast...a bit sticky. Fluid is
yellowish in color, so she feels is is colostrum.

Woman has no history of a breast infection, although has had occasional
plugged ducts that have resolved with hot compresses and nursing.

Problem is that she doesn't want the lump drained if it isn't an abscess.
Any suggestions?

This is taken in dictation for a colleague.

Kathleen
