the research that has been done here in the UK with video observations of
mothers, breast and not breastfeeding, by Helen Ball and her team, has shown
that almost all breastfeeding mothers filmed did adopt a protective,
distinctive position at night when co-sleeping.  Mothers who were not
breastfeeding might adopt this postion, but there was a markedly lower
incidence of their doing so.

There should be a post from me and one from Helen in the archives,
describing her research -- I posted after hearing her speak, and she
responded.
