Just haphazardly scanning one digest and had to comment on this statement: 

"[TORCH] is also the most common cause of mental retardation after Down syndrome."

My understanding is that the most common cause of mental retardation is the category "Unknown" and 
the second most common cause is Fragile-X syndrome.  Down syndrome used to be third, but has probably fallen
even further down the list as more and more women are having amniocentesis and aborting for DS.
