I am posting this for Amy. Write your letter soon! Deb

Dear Fellow breastfeeding supporters,
I just returned from the Breastfeeding Conference (Breastfeeding Support
Consultants) in Nashville. Miriam Labbok, MD, MPH, IBCLC spoke eloquently on
several issues, and as you know, her name has been submitted to President
Clinton for consideration as the next Surgeon General. It was asked at the
conference that as many people as possible write letters to Bob Nash at the
White House, as well as to your Senators, and State Representatives urging
that they support Dr. Labbok's nomination and confirmation. I am attaching
the letter I sent to Bob Nash with his address. Please write IMMEDIATELY and
spread the word, as "the short list" will be announced by the White House
shortly. Miriam Labbok's nomination would be an incredible positive step in
the right direction for breastfeeding. Thanks for your help.

Dear Mr. Nash,

I am writing to voice my strong support for the nomination and confirmation
of Miriam Harriet Labbok, MD, MPH for Surgeon General of the United States.

Dr, Labbok is an outstanding candidate with an impressive background of many
years of experience working with families in this counrty and abroad helping
to educate and improve healthcare. Dr. Labbok is an ardent supporter of
women's health issues, including the promotion and support of breastfeeding.
The scientific evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that breastfeeding is
superior nutrition for infants. UNICEF states that breastfeeding is the
single most powerful and well documented preventive modality available to
help reduce infant morbidity.

Let President Clinton demonstrate his true commitment to the health of our
nation's children and families by nominating and facilitating the
confirmation of Dr. Labbok as our next Surgeon General.

Respectfully,

Amy Feldman, RN, MSN, CPNP, IBCLC
