sadly the two rcts I am aware of are little help in this discussion. (And I
thin we need research evidence in this area).

The Australian Henderson trial, in Birth (sure it was discussed on list)
does not mention what elements of positiong/attachment were taught to the
women, which is furstrating. The HOT trial in Bristol (Ingram et al,
Midwifery June 2002) has points which do not include asymetry, but the
accompanying pictures [the leaflet given to women in the trial is included
in the research paper] show asymetry, and this is the technique used in the
video from Mark-It (1997), which also clearly show asymetry.

it is great that there is some research work being undertaken on things like
positioning technique, but we need to be pressing for more. All very well
to continue to emphasise the importance and discuss it, but until we can
show that it makes a difference in studies, we dont' really know if we are
seeing true effects ourselves. (don't get me wrong, I think we are, but we
need to demonstrate it more clearly.
