I don't see that it would be a big problem w/ HIPAA. You would enter into a
sort of contract with the LC and you would be the 'intern' or LC student. As
with nursing school students, the pts usually accept them and also can
refuse to have them if they feel so inclined. The LC could enter the pt's
room briefly (if in a hosp setting) and ask if it's ok for the student to be
in on the consultation. If in private practice, the LC can ask permission
for the student to be present when she is setting up the appt. If the pt
refuses in either setting, the student can be given another 'assignment'
like read this article or make this phone call, whatever. If done in a
professional way, I think most clients would agree to it.
