I am presenting (to our Nursing Council on our OB unit) a change in our post-birth flow to follow the ABM and the AAP's Protocols to keep the baby in direct skin to skin contact with the mother until the first feeding is accomplished (ie the Sacred Hour), and throughout the newborn period. Dos anyone have a specific work flow (ie, how many nurses needed and what the nurse will be expected to do/when) in this scenerio? Have any of you adopted this practice as policy, and, if so, would you be willing to share your protocol with me? Also, if you have adopted this practice, how is it working for the staff? I know it works beautifully for the moms and babies! Thank you in advance.
