Mom of an 11 mo old called today(her dtr had slowed weight gaining prev when
ill, regained well when feeling better) whose child was ill and only BF,
concerned because the last episode prompted Dr. to say "maybe you should stop
breastfeeding, she needs to eat more." Fearful of the same statement being
made, yet this mom of 4 knows she is helping to BF. I basically told her she
is supplying needed fluids(I guess good in Drs. eyes) and all the immunities
as well, but guess we would like some input if the same comment is repeated
at the ear-check folloup visit when he weighs her again. Also is on
amoxicillin, and a cough prep with codeine was prescribed but mom is
concerned about the strength of this med. Has used Ped**care when a lot of
coughing, and it helped. I'm so glad to have all of you to consult with,
previously just would get me down that the doc(whose wife has BF their kids!)
came out with only this, no explanation.
BTW, I spoke to the mom with the "temper tantrum" doc(who thought she was pg,
and ob was having a fit in full view and earsight of the waiting room) I
mailed her some of the advice given and am anxious to hear her reaction, but
she thanks all of you who responded!!
Appreciate any input-TIA!
