I saw Jan Riordan speak at the LLLI 1999 conference (BABIES AT RISK: can we
prredict which breastfeeding babies are at risk for early postpartum
problems? was the lecture topic) and she discussed the various assessment
tools including LATCH.  She has also developed her own which I believe is
called the VIA CHRISTI Assessment tool (SP?).the 5 criteria were 1.latch-on,
2. length of time before latch, 3.suckling, 4. audible swallowing, 5. mom's
evaluation. each could be scored from 0-2 pts. for a total of 0-10 pts.
Riordan welcomed feedback on using this & gave out her e-mail but I don't
know if I should give it out here? e-mailme privately I guess (that's if I
even copied it down correctly as I didn't have access at that time & it
wasn't a priority).
