I can't stand it. "Breastfeeding is guilty until proved otherwise.
Formula is innocent until proved otherwise" I suppose if the
physician read in some throw away medical journal that lupus was
associated with low prolactin levels, he would advise all his patients
with lupus to breastfeed, right? Yeh, right. I mean, it is, like,
obvious that the higher prolactin levels cause lupus, eh? I mean all
breastfeeding women have lupus like symptoms--sure. What are lupus
like symptoms anyway? Lupus erythematosis is associated with fatigue
(aha!), skin rashes, high blood pressure, joint pains, mental
disturbances (aha!), anything you want to name (aha!), for crying out
loud. And lupus like symptoms do not a lupus make.

And most medications are compatible with breastfeeding. So inform
this mother, and inform her that unless there is definite proof of
risk to her baby, the physician should lay off. And if I were her, I
would get a somewhat more definite diagnosis before going on some
funny drugs. And if she really does needs something, we can all
consult on which drugs would be compatible with breastfeeding.
