Dear Friends:
A study done on hydrogel dressings was halted as the women using the
hydrogel were getting infections more than the control group. Now there is a
new hydrogel dressing that claims to be resistant to infection from 4
bacteria and Candida a. The product is less than 1 year old, and the
research was done by the company making the new hydrogel.
The representative of the company told me that she knows of women that
are buying the product and using it prophylactically.....to prevent sore
nipples. She also told me of a hearing about a non-pregnant, non-lactating
woman wearing the dressing to experience how comfortable it was. How relevant
is that to lactation?
Looks like this could be a new product with a risk of
misuse.....especially if women start buying it to use to prevent sore nipples.
    Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI, CSTP
