This thread is pointing up a problem we don't often hear about. When weight
loss slacks off, despite fervent breastfeeding of offspring, this could be
attributable to the 'insufficient baby syndrome'. The baby just doesn't
have the appetite to mobilize all the stored energy on mother's thighs and
abdomen (and upper arms, breasts, etc.). It appears to be increasing, as
reflected in the upward shift in body mass index in the population,
including the population of lactating women. We need to push for research
into how babies can be made to nurse more, and for longer, so that the
balance of energy will once again result in automatic slimming while
lactating.
