I just had to respond to this since it is something that I have wondered
about with friends. Israeli kids are introduced to peanuts very early
through a snack food called Bamba which is aimed at older babies and
toddlers. Its actually the second word many Israeli children say,
(after Aba which means father) Yet, we, personally never hear about peanut
allergy in Israel. Then we spend our summers in the US and my kids are not
allowed to bring peanut butter sandwiches to camp for their own
consumption. I do not know for a fact but I do not think that our
breastfeeding rates are higher than in the US so I don't think that would
explain the difference.
All the best,
Chayn Fogelman IBCLC in Israel, who only desires Bamba when she's pregnant.
