Dear friends,

Common advise for la actating woman is to only loose weight gradually in order to prevent too much toxins to be released in het milk. Environmental toxins are stored in body fat - weight loss means the break down of body fat and excretion of the toxins possibly via the milkfat. Thet's in short the theory. But how evidence based is thid? Is this supported by any research or is it just hypothesis and ''keeping on the safe site''?
What is the *real* risk for her infant if a lactating woman is on a crash diet r has her stomach manipulated? And will there be different risks for children of different ages?

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands
