Hello Sue,
If this mom is certain the problem is estrogen deficiency why not use a
natural estrogen, made from soy. It is available in a cream that could be
applied to the area. It can compounded at the pharmacy. Or she could also
take natural estrogen capsules, also compounded by a pharmacy with
prescription. She would need blood work to confirm the deficiency or better
yet, a saliva hormone test. I have used compounded natural hormones as a
treatment for osteoporosis while breastfeeding for 4 years with only a
possible slight reduction in milk supply as compared to using a low dose
birth control pill. If she has chronic estrogen deficiency that is confirmed
she should also probably consider the other effects this could have on her
health and seek treatment. Endocrinologists specialize in hormone problems,
however, I have had poor luck in my area finding one who knows anything
about natural hormone treatments. A good naturopath could help her. I would
suggest a bone density test so she doesn't end up osteoporitic at a young
age like I did.
