Hi Kathy et al:

I have tried a similar technique, although not always for so long as 3-8
days. Also, I encourage the mother to rest skin-to-skin; chest-to-chest with
baby so the breast becomes a "pleasant place to hang out." Baby gets used to
the feel and smell without negative memories or pressure to perform. If baby
balks, STOP. But since this often involves a position other than the one the
baby attributes to being "smooshed" into the breast, balking is unusual.

To describe the sensation, I ask the mother if she ever was held under water
as a child and how she felt and reacted.

Karen
