Dear Nikki,

I have been fortunate enough to have the pediatric surgeon Cathy Genna
referred to in her post close enough to refer to, and have had 3 babies with
posterior tongue tie receive frenotomies from her. The most successful baby of the
three was unable to sustain suck for any length of time at breast and took mom
breastfeeding for over an hr per feed to get enough calories. Following
frenotomy the first thing mom noticed was baby's ability to stay attached to breast
and after a few weeks her baby was successfully breastfeeding and continues
almost a yr later being almost exclusively breastfed, with some solids. (Baby
was supplemented with formula for a week or so before frenotomy due to
difficulty at breast).

The other two babies' mothers had primary lactation insufficiency so their
course of breastfeeding has not been exclusive. Hope this helps you and mom
you're working with.
