Need your sage help! I have just begun to counsel a 23y/o g6 p0 young woman
who is 15 weeks pregnant. All other pregnancies ended in miscarriage. She
has epilepsy and is being treated with Tegretol (800 mg in am and 600 mg. in
pm) and Keppra (500 mg. 2x day). Hale has a listing for Tegretol in the
2002 edition, but the listing for Keppra (trade name for LEVETIRACETAM) says
that it is "unreviewed".

Biochemistry is my weak area. Could someone out there who is more oriented
that way please look this up in Hale (pg. 411 - 412 in the 2002 edition) and
translate what he means in the descriptive section by "kinetics alone would
suggest...." , " and "it is 100% orally bioavailable".

Her neurologist has told her she absolutely may not breastfeed..... I have
sent her off back to him loaded with xeroxed pages from Lawrence, LLL, Hale,
R&A, as well as a reference from his own professional journal on the topic
(which I found in our archives, thanks!)

Incidentially, might there be new research on LEVETIRACETAM since this book
was written? Do any of you know?

Thanks,
lj berkeley, IBCLC in El paso
