Phyllis has told us that her unit will be using the education modules from the March of Dimes for CE credits for the nurses. Mead Johnson is listed as a sponsor of the Perinatal Grand Rounds program. The March of Dimes offers a number of self learning modules, but I cannot tell who sponsors them from the information on the March of Dimes website. As to the "scientific lecture," this would be something that if it is being held within the hospital that you might wish to check with your corporate compliance department. These lectures are a commercial for DHA supplemented formula and have been eliminated by some hospitals who have chosen to drop their addiction to formula company handouts in order to deliver patient care that is free of conflict of interest. Are the nurses required to attend this lecture? If so, you might wish to utilize your conscientious objection prerogative and decline to attend on the grounds that it violates your personal and professional ethical codes.

You might also wish to advise the nurses during your question and answer time with them that DHA-supplemented formula has been reported to have numerous side effects, that the FDA has received many complaints about the formulas, and that their safety for use in newborns has never been determined by an FDA investigation.
