Yes, they are a chargeable item but most insurances pay one flat price for a
vaginal or c-section delivery so individually charged items are usually
absorbed by the hospital.  We have been told repeatedly that we are not a
unit that makes money for the hospital.  But that we draw the parents in and
hopefully they will love us so much they will return for all of their medical
needs and pass the word to family and friends.  My next question to my boss
will be why not charge the kit to the baby since it is to provide protection
and food to the baby.  I know the NICU is a money maker.
