Anne brings up some interesting questions about email helping. Those of
us who speak and write get a lot of unsolicited email on our topics from
tech-savvy moms. It can be time intensive and thorny to answer all those
questions.

Personally, I try to refer mom to an IBCLC in her area, I look through
the directory to find people whose names I know (from Lactnet, League,
and conferences, people that I know are working hard at keeping up with
the flood of new information in our field). If it's a quick question or
mom has exhausted help in her area, I usually offer to look at some
photos or a video and give some tips. This works out very well, because
I can *see* what's going on.

What drives me crazy is when lactation consultants tell their clients to
email me. These moms usually wind up being a lot of work, because they
are in difficult situations. I would much rather talk to the lc
directly, it's much faster, and then she can help future moms with the
issue as well. None of us know everything, so it helps to have brains to
pick (love Lactnet for that!).
