Jan asks:

When I was doing surveys for our hospital (in my former life), I was
told
that anything above 30% for a response rate was actually excellent.
Perhaps
that has changed? What is the current thinking on response rates to
surveys
to make them valid.

It must be not just the percent who respond, but more importantly,
who chooses to respond? Where do they get their lists from whom to
get responses? If they are only asking those who have filled in
some kind of "club membership" or who have redeemed "coupons", then
they are NOT surveying those moms who are committed to 100%
breastfeeding to the extent that they ignore/discard/refuse to
answer anything that comes from a formula company! I find this
expecially questionable when they try to talk about the percentage
who are supplementing. These stats must come from moms who are
already buying their product! Talk about skewed results!
If they are getting the lists to survey from general hospital lists,
this is definitely against current privacy regs. Wonder if HIPPA
will effect such surveys?

Winnie
