Sharon, you're absolutely right!  Mineral oil interfers with the absorption
of vitamins A, D, and E.  We only give mineral oil to pp moms with 4th degree
lacerations or major league hemorroids ( one dose ).  I.E. When we want to be
100% sure the BM will be soft.  I've never seen it given in the NICU.  If an
infant was "truly" constipated, I'd recommend a glycerin supp. for a younger
infant, and prunes or prune juice for one on solid foods.  By the way, I'm a
vegetarian.  Like breastfed babies, we rarely get constipated.  Kim   P.S.
