I don't know. I have read both that routine vaccinations stopped in
1971 and also that routine vaccinations stopped in 1982. Also, that the
military stopped routine vaccinations in 1990 (of course the military is
a small part of the population). Anyway, I got my second smallpox
vaccination in 1978, because I was planning to travel to South America.
The local health department just said it was a good idea, and what did I
know? So, perhaps it was not a "routine" vaccination, just a
"traveler's" vaccination. So it's possible only mothers over age 31
have all had the vaccination, yet a good number of younger ones have, as
well.

I agree the vaccination sounds dangerous not only for the primary
inoculated but also for everyone in his/her "ring." However, I do
remember my baby sister and all my baby cousins getting it, and now I
wonder why no one talked about its being dangerous before.

Still wanting more and better information, Arly Helm, MS, IBCLC
