Hi Kika,

I have found that it can help to hear what they are looking for.  My 
work has generally been with a seeing impaired mother, however, I 
would think that it works both ways.

It may be that they want mum to describe baby to dad.  This is where 
it is important for all staff to know that mum is the first to 
speak.  Dad may want to "see" his baby by feeling the face and 
body.  This is how my father "saw" us.

Then to talk about all of the usual breastfeeding support.  Most 
seeing impaired people are very good at basic cooking, laundry, 
etc.  This father would probably be able to help hold and care for 
his baby.  Maybe not change a nappy/diaper, but certainly with a 
sling, could carry and go for walks with his baby.

So, this would probably be one of the things I would start 
with.  Having some slings that they could try so that the dad could 
learn how to put his baby into the sling.  Then how he can help with 
holding and supporting his partner.
