Winnie--You are brilliant in your astute breakdown of nipple confusion. I
bow to your well-worded intelligence and insight!! :-)

I also GREATLY appreciate Pat, Marsha, and Gonneke for their contributions on
the subject as well.

I really was intrigued by Barbara's posting on this subject. It serves as a
reminder to me that not all babies do get "confused" (or whatever term we
prefer to use). Because I know it DOES indeed exist for some babies,
however, I find myself heavy-hearted when a mom calls me to tell me she has
nursing problems and mentions that yes, indeedy, they HAVE been using
bottles, nipple shields, and/or pacifiers. I find myself thinking, "Alright.
Here are some things you can try, but good luck! It may already be too
late!" How wrong of me!! I am ashamed!! :-) Perhaps my attitude (though I
try to convey a different one to the mom) is creating a barrier for her and
her baby in and of itself. Thank you for the reminder that nipple confusion
does indeed not have to be "fatal", as Barbara put it.
