I would recommend a good Occupational Therapist or Cranio-sacral Therapist
for both of these problems.  The numbness may be hormonally related, but the
way her body is reacting may be altered by some quality body work.

You said that the Indian woman's mother was giving her massage and it might
be touchy to suggest another person do body work, but if it were cran-sacr
work it would look very different.
