I have been "sucked" out of lurkdom by the posts on interesting places where
members have fed their children. By way of introduction, I am a nurse of
almost 30 years, a recently retired (after 10 years) LLLL and an IBCLC of 7
years. I worked in community health nursing before my son was born. After I
became certified I had a small private LC practice for a few years and then
worked as a hospice nurse as well for a few more years before returning to
graduate school in preparation for certification as a Family Nurse
Practitioner. That is, if my elderly brain holds out! It is definitely
being stretched to its limits as the oldest student in the class!

Anyway, the discussion reminded me of a wonderful day I spent with my then 18
month (now 14 year) old son. I was visiting my best friend in my hometown
Philadelphia (northern USA) We were visiting the Phila Zoo and he really,
REALLY, wanted to nurse. Since he was so easily distracted at that age, I
looked for a quiet place. It was a hot, sunny day in July. I saw a covered
area where some sort of activity was going on, but there were several rows of
empty seats in the back. Perfect!, I thought. So we settled in and he
started to eat and we both got real comfy. It was only then that my friend
found us and pointed out what was going on at the front of the pavilion - a
cow milking demonstration! What fun!

Thank you to the members who have shared their stories. You helped me
remember that very funny day as well as to think about other, tender times I
spent with that 6 ft tall teenager asleep upstairs! I love to help mothers
with breastfeeding because I hate to think of a mother missing out on that
special relationship with her child.
