Hey Betsy,

I'd encourage all of those working with docs(especially pediatricians) to
look at the AAP's breastfeeding resources on their website. I was one of
the faculty for that AAP powerpoint presentation. It's designed for
continuing education credit for peds and ob's to learn to incorporate
breastfeeding support into everyday practice. And we are working on
identifying opportunities for peds and ob's to collaborate in breastfeeding
support.

There is at least one pediatrician acting as chapter breastfeeding
coordinator for the AAP in every state (I'm one of the two in WI) who can
help with education and promotion of breastfeeding on a doc-to-doc level. I
have given "breastfeeding basics for physicians" lectures as part of my
role as chapter breastfeeding coordinator in WI.

Plus, when the AAP called for residency programs to pilot a breastfeeding
curriculum, 70 programs applied...there is obvious interest in training
docs at the residency level.

The Section on Breastfeeding for the AAP is one of the biggest sections of
the AAP. There are peds in every state that are in the membership.

Maybe supportive peds aren't around you, but we're around!

Jenny
