Virginia and all,
I too am interested in any info about helping adoptive mothers
nurse. I have only worked with a few moms. 2 moms gave up after
several months of pumping and not getting more than just a few drops of
milk. THey both did put their children to breast the first couple of
months before giving up. 1 gave up after trying for several months with
her baby (he was 6 months old when adopted) This mother thanked me for
all my help and was very happy for the experience and said it helped her
bond with her baby. She too was frustrated that she did not achieve a
good milk supply (even an ounce per day), even with the use of reglan.
She still will comfort nurse sometimes, but was hoping for more. What
is the best way to help these mothers and can they get more than just a
few drops. Can email me privately if more appropriate. Gratefull for
any help, references, and or resource materials.
Thanks,
Sandy Riese RNC, IBLCL
