Susan I believe you misread this statement from the FDA link you provided:


But it says in most cases it's safe with cold water. (seems a bit like "in
most cases driving a car without a seat belt is safe"...)
So if you have any links to a firm recommendation by US govt links such as
CDC or FDA recommendations for hot water prep, I'd be grateful.

As it continues and states, "...cold tap water that's brought to a boil and then boiled for one minute and cooled."
