Susan: Do you realize you have described UCLA's Lactation Training
Programs almost to a "T"? Their programs, which are master's level
certifications, have been in existence since 1982. I was a 1985-1986
graduate of both their Educator and Consultant (Lact I and Lact II) courses
and have served as adjunct faculty since 1987. Their hope was that other
universities would use their program as a model to develop and offer a
similar training in their area. One of the criticisms of the UCLA courses,
besides the expense, was that one had to go to CA. UCLA hoped that by now
other universities across the country would be offering their own programs
based on UCLA's model. So far, no takers.
We wouldn't even have to re-invent the wheel, as it was invented 24 years
ago.
