HI,
We would like to have our storage of pumped breast milk policy (in hospital) to state that mom can store her milk in a labeled sterile sealed container in her room for up to 10 hours if her baby is a normal term baby. We feel it would be safer, no mix ups in the nursery, and more convenient for mom and staff, less running and no having to warm the milk. It was all a go until the infection control nurse heard of it and said she wanted literature showing it was safe. I told her we were already giving mom's literature stating room temp storage was up to 10 hours. She said she wanted literature showing it is safe storage "in a hospital". How much safer I don't know how it could get unless mother chained it to herself. But, I digress, does anyone have literature specific to in hospital policies that can support this? I have asked the hospital librarian to get a copy of the Barger research. Please email me directly if you have any suggestions or hospital policies, or research I can
get my sweaty lactation hands on....THANKS!
Barb
