I guess at my group I am getting pretty lucky. I also run a weekly group -
very eclectic group I might add. Heck with me as their fearless, rather out
there in more ways than one, leader it has to be eclectic! I must say we
do have a good time!

Anyway - every other week I bring my older boys with me - mind you they are
14 and almost 12. :) Some of the other moms sometimes bring their older
kids ranging in age from 2 - 10 (but it's been a while since we've had any
as old as my boys). Sometimes a new mom will pull out that darn cloth thing
and cover themselves up. The long time moms know exactly what I'm gonna do
too! (and sometimes they join in when appropriate) (I am 100% smart aleck -
lotsa laughter in my groups!)

I look at the new mom and give her a big smile and say, "Oooh! I know what
you are doing! You're 'BREASTFEEDING' a BABY under there aren't you??"
Everyone laughs and then we talk about how the covers are a nice big bull's
eye for everyone else to know exactly what you are doing with that kid...
Of course I tell them that if they really want to use it that's fine - but
if they would like some practice nursing in a manner that has them actually
covered and comfy this is the perfect place to do it! What is fun is that
often I'll suggest they look around to see who else is nursing...they look
and realize that the sleeping baby isn't really sleeping snuggled in moms
arms - she's nursing! I work hard to keep it lighthearted and if I can see
a new mom is really sensitive I keep the direct teasing out and just talk
about the bull's eye thing.

Interesting - the moms in the group have no issue when my boys are there.
It's so cool because it gives the moms a chance to relax and just do what
they do and not worry about what some other parent is going to think. :)
And it reinforces to my kids just how normal breastfeeding is.

Thought I'd share...
