Re: Breastfeeding without Aids. I have to admit, that the reason it took
me so long to become a LLL Leader (member since 1977, certified 1990) is
that my only problems were comments and dealing with others and I had no
problems with the actual physical act of breastfeeding, therefore needed
no aids nor were they available way back when. I too wonder about all
the grimcracks, bells and whistles. It really 'gets' me when expectant
with first babies women ask me about pumps, etc. I want to ask why they
want to complicate and possibly jeopardize breastfeeding, before even
starting. But I hold my tongue and try to explain what they need to
consider and whatever, to try to hold off at least 3 weeks before
starting any other thing.
Re: expecting triplets. I recommend Helen Harrison's book, The Premature
Baby Book, St. Martins Press - it discusses multiples - both pros & cons
- of breastfeeding. Many of the contributions are first person from
parents experiencing that particular situation. It is a good book, with
the discussion both personal and very factual and realistic.
Re: Milk Storage. LLLI has a Human Milk Storage Information Sheet. It is
taken from LLLI pam #30 -"A Mother's Guide to Milk Expression and Breast
Pumps" (revised 4/96) $1.25.
   Frozen Milk
            In  a freezer compartment inside a refrigerator - 2 weeks
            In a separate door refrigerator/freezer - 3 to 4 months
(temps vary due to amount of opening/closing of freezer door)
            In a deep freezer at a constant temp 19`C (0`F) - 6 months
or longer (again really depends on amount of time freezer is
opened/closed).
Re: SIDS. Dr. William Sears wrote a book on SIDS - A Parents Guide. I
have not seen it, but hope that he would provide references for his
information in a footnote or separate section.
Dr. Jack is the lead article in LLLI's Breastfeeding Abstract  (May
1997). I have not had a second yet to read it, but must congratulate him
and I am sure that it is great.
