This has received a lot of coverage. Some things that people who see clients
might like to know:

- the original news release appears to be timed with the EPA's new
guidelines on perchlorate in drinking water
http://www2.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2005-02/acs-pfi022205.php

- the news release was issued by the American Chemical Society. Their web
site is at http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/home.html

- although some news reports indicate researchers have recommended an iodine
supplement for pregnant and nursing women, what the release says is that the
researchers involved are recommending an increase in the recommended daily
intake of iodine

- perchlorate was found in all but one sample of cows milk as well as all
samples of breast milk. The study looked at 47 dairy milk samples from
grocery stores in 11 states and 36 breast milk samples from 18 states

- the release says perchlorate occurs naturally as well as being a primary
ingredient in solid rocket fuel
