Hi Jack...since I already emailed you privately, this shouldn't be a shock
and I really intend it in the kindest of spirit. Certainly, I do not want a
duel and would admit defeat on the spot. That notwithstanding, I have to
say that I'd bet my first born son that it WAS you who said that if babies
are compressing the sinuses sufficiently they "should" be extracting enough
milk in a ten minute period. I don't think you ever referred to it as a
"rule", certainly not a "law". I've gone back and to find it (and I could
even listen to the tapes), but I'm looking right at my notes from a lengthy
discussion following your presentation on BREASTFEEDING MYTHS: SEPARATING
FACT FROM FICTION (#129) for the LLLI July 1995 conference in Chicago, ILL.
Breast compression was discussed as a means to get babies who weren't
achieving this "up to par." So, it is possible that 5 years ago, while
nursing a baby in a sling, my right hand had a mind of its own, but I doubt
it since I tend to lose part of my brain while lactation, not grow extras ;)
Humbly,
