I am not up-to-date reading all of the posts over the last few days, so please forgive me if I am repeating a prior post.
Based on the description of a second credential, it sounds a bit unnecessary. LLLI already has a wonderful accreditation process for "providing community-based breastfeeding peer support," does it not? When I became an LLL Leader, my understainding was that our role was to provide exactly this type of support, and if we were out of our depth, to refer to our PL department, and they would refer to an IBCLC if the situation was a total train-wreck. Is there a reason why an LLL Leader could not currently practice under an IBCLC in a clinic setting? Perhaps some individuals would not like to go through the process of LLL accreditation, and the volunteer work it involves, in order to work with an IBCLC? It just seems like re-inventing the wheel to me. Clarification would be much appreciated.

p.s. In the interest of full-disclosure, I am not currently accredited through LLLI, as my leader dues are WAY past due, but I should be reinstated soon, as a mother in my group gave us a very generous check that will more than cover my dues.

credential, despite a negative reaction from ILCA?

Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) has identified a need in Canada and the United
States to define a baseline of competence for those providing community-based
breastfeeding peer support. The Board is developing a criterion-referenced

component of the continuum of care available to breastfeeding mothers in
these countries. Relevant stakeholders are being consulted."
