Pat says,
*****************************************

After the measures that I
suggested failed, I suggested an ultrasound for retained placenta. OB was
highly offended and said that she examines all placentas thoroughly. There
was no possibility of retained placenta. And, as with Jill, the only
symptom was lack of milk.>>
Yes, yes, yes. This is not intended to be an indictment on the OB, but so
many of them take it that way. I'm sure it can happen to anyone -- and I'm
also quite sure that it would be relatively easy to miss a tiny piece of
placenta or membrane. If only they would see that lack of milk that doesn't
respond to anything else in the face of all other things being normal COULD be the
symptom, and the ONLY symptom of retained particles.

<<Mother struggled for a few weeks, feeding formula, and gave up trying to
get a milk supply going. Then at about 4 weeks she had a large bleed and
an ultrasound revealed a tiny placental fragment. The next day there was
the beginning of a milk supply. The mother went on to get her supply to
adequacy, but this was after 4 weeks of needless formula. If she hadn't fed
her first baby I doubt that she would have worked to build her supply.>>

Pat, thanks for this story. It confirms what I think all of us *know* --
and perhaps our story will end the same way. I've never ever prayed for
someone to have a postpartum bleed before, but I am now!!
