Congrats, Cicely, on 8 great months of nursing! Do you need to give
bottles in order to get sleep or get your baby to sleep, NO! In order to
maximize your rest, consider sharing sleep if you do not already co-bed
with your daughter. If you are co-sleeping and want to get more rest you
may want to explore some of the books etc. out there about night-weaning
to see if that is a solution for you (try LLL website). You may want to
explore with your husband different ways for him to parent her to sleep
that do not involve bottle feeding. Also consider if having your baby on a
schedule will solve these issues for you. A demand feeder can seem more
challenging, but when you consider how much flexibility this affords you--
vs. being committed to "the schedule"--and how much more secure and
nourished your daughter will be when she is able to determine her intake--
you may want to look at other options. You are most welcome to email me
privately if you wish to further discuss. At 8 mos. your baby is at an age
where you will probably have more luck with a cup than a bottle if you
are needing to give her EBM while you are apart.
Kindly,
Leslie Cree
champion of toddler nursers everywhere!
