 From my experience (12 months up close and personal with a  
Symphony!) one recurring issue was that the piston caps would pop out  
of place from time to time. The only external sign of this is  
reduction in vacuum. So I believe it's also important to ensure the  
mother is popping the top open and re-seating the caps frequently  
(along with all the usual maintenance such as replacing valves and  
membranes, etc).
