This is Debbie Albert, Tampa, FL. I am just responding to the
question. I have certification in Reality Therapy. A reality therapist
consistently focuses on the NOW. He or She consistently asks their patient
--What are you doing now? Is what you are currently doing helping you to get
what you want? OR Is it against society rules? What behavior can YOU
personally change in order to get what you want in life? I use Reality
Therapy EVERY day with my breastfeeding patients, and so do many lactation
consultants. For example, are using pacifiers and supplementary bottles
helping you to develop a full milk supply? Would it be helpful to reduce
supplementation? Does a schedule help you to fully nurture your baby?

Reality therapy was started by William Glasser M.D. with a small book
that he wrote called "Reality Therapy". There is a true recognition of the
fact that you have to deal with your patient's world--not your own. Glasser
probably would have become bigger than he is if he wasn't sooo arrogant, and
he was more research oriented. Obviously, his ideas work-- look at Dr. Phil!

I just have to throw in this tidbit: In a previous life, I was a
full-time psychotherapist. Once when a person asked for my card, "He said
REALTY Therapy--I could certainly use some of that! Of course, this person
was actually a Realtor! Just a great example of people seeing things their
own way...
