maybe susan lives in a more ideal world than i, but my impression is that OTs
and speech therapists that know anything about infant sucking that doesn't
pertain to bottles and nipples are rare birds, indeed. they would be more
likely to "help" you decide which bottle and nipple was "best," not how to
avoid them.

and just as an example of what "research-based evidence" can do to persuade
institutions to change their practices, one of the local hospitals gives
every mother of a preemie a copy of a lovely booklet by paula meier, but they
do absolutely nothing that she describes in the text. they become absolutely
outraged (doctors and nurses both) by even the merest mention of any more
reasonable practices.
