Large breasts become pendulous, in other words their weight distributes 
down onto the ribcage, to better balance the body and relieve strain on 
the lower back of carrying heavier breasts. This lowers the center of 
gravity over wearing a bra. It also allows one to see one's feet. Bras 
lift the breast, raising the center of gravity and increasing strain on 
the lower back, and placing some of the weight of the breast on the 
shoulders through the straps. A well fitted bra will do this less, as 
the rib band takes most of the weight of the breast, but the snug rib 
band can impede breathing.

I try to help mom place the baby where the nipple naturally falls, so 
there is no strain with gravity pulling downward and the baby trying to 
hold on. It gets tiring for the mom's hand to hold her breast up as 
well. Of course every mother and baby is different, and we all make the 
best suggestions we can for each dyad.
