Nancy,

This is so obvious that I'm almost ashamed to even suggest it, but
is there any chance that mom's letdown is so active, or her milk-full
breasts are so firm (you mentioned mom's breast tissue was firmer
generally) that baby is put off by it?  Has mom tried expressing a
fair amount of milk before putting baby to breast, for several feeds
(in case baby has already 'learned' to dislike the situation, and
needs several offers to 'get' that the breast is no longer like that)?
