For me, the greatest insight was this from Dr. Oddie:

"Healthcare professionals lack confidence in their ability to know when
breastfeeding is going well. I think that is interpreted by other
healthcare professionals and women as a lack of confidence in the process
itself."

I might add, the women interpret it as a lack of confidence in their
ability to mother.

I think this would change a lot if it were normal in any maternal and child
health care provider training to do rounds (ideally including home visits)
with a lactation consultant.  There is a crying need to know what's normal
and what isn't, and how what's happening with mom affects baby and vice
versa.  For example, my community's LLL Facebook group keeps having to
explain to every second or third mom who joins that many of the distressing
things her baby is doing are due to her oversupply, and too often the only
solution offered has been reflux meds...
